Week one day four activity 1

Hey bloggers. For the summer learning journey we had to write five question we would ask Sir Edmund Hillary. Here are my questions.

  • How does it feel to be one of the first people to reach the top of mount Everest?
  • Why do you have sir in front of your name?
  • How long did it take you?
  • What challenges were there?
  • If you didn't reach the top of mount Everest what would you be doing now?
Hope you like my post. Feel free to comment. Blog you later!

  1. Hi Jasmine,

I'm Leslie and I'm reading your blog from Canada where we're in the middle of our winter. As a member of the Summer Learning Journey team, I'm enjoying reading your blog about Sir Edmund Hillary because he seemed to be someone who enjoyed winter too!

Unfortunately, Sir Edmund Hillary died a number of years ago, in 2008. It would be really interesting to be able to meet him and ask him your questions in person, wouldn't it?!!

He managed his climb to the top of Everest with the help of a Sherpa guide named Tenzing Norgay, so it was really the 2 men who first reached the summit together. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to climb up a snowy, dangerous mountain with very little oxygen to breathe and low temperatures. Mountain climbers are very brave people!!

Have you ever climbed a high hill or mountain? There are many volcanoes that are quite steep in Auckland - perhaps you've gone up and down them a number of times! Would you like to be a mountain climber?

I'd rather paddle across lakes and down rivers, myself. Canoeing is my favourite outdoor activity. That's very different from climbing, of course!! In canoeing the wind is the challenge, usually.

Well, I hope you're having a lot of fun this summer on your holiday time. And I hope you'll keep working at the Summer Learning Journey activities. You're doing really well!!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
